Hey Folks, I am looking for some advice. I am tired of getting beat up on the whooped out trails with a 121" Track. My wife has a 136 and it rides across the top. I want to extend my 2001 SXR 700 to a 136 or 141. So here is where we are. I would appreciate some reccomendations as to what I should extend to either 136 or 141. I do a little off trail but 136 will work ok. My concerns are the torque required on the drive shaft and will I have to upgrade that with a new skid or extensions. Here is the other question Does the front trailing arms need to be changed if the skid changes. You guys know much better than I do. But keep in mind the economy is tough and I have to keep this at a minimum. Labor is not an issue.
Thanks For you input. I truely would appreciate it.
Thanks Todd

You can find all of your answers by checking out this page or calling this guy. The 2001s have an upgraded, harder drive shaft so there should be no worries there. Just buy a kit and follow the instructions.

136 is fine for trail and light boondocking. DON'T go with a 141. You'll be very limited in track selection. I have 2 136'ers and 2 144's. My Attak with a 1.5x144 Crossover still handles as well as it did when it was a 136 and MUCHO better offtrail . I'll be putting a 1.75 Backcountry on it and moving the 1.5 to the '11 Apex XTX. My Viper is a 136 and stuggled some offtrail. Too steep of an approach angle with the stock MSRX skid.

Thanks for the updates. I wasn't sure about the updated Driveshaft so that is Good to hear. Viper Dave, would you modify the SXR Skid with extensions or new rails, or start with a differant skid. I can't afford an aftermarket custom skid for 2000.
Thanks Todd

Cheapest and simplest is tunnel and rail extensions. You can get package deals from TracksUSA. If you are looking for better ride and durability, go with, dare I say it, another manufacturer's skid. Ther have been lot's of guys here install Poo, Cat and Doo skids. Find 1 cheap enough and get the track and extension used and you'll have the same money tied up in it. Maxdlx has a Poo skid in his Warrior and loves it!! It's all in what you want to spend money and timewise.
i have a hartman ext on my viper and love it. rails and tunnel. pretty easy to do as well. just follow the instructions and you will be good. fair price too.
Go with the hartman extensions much better kit than tracks usa. Give tom hartman a call he will be more than happy to tell you what ever you wanna know.

I stretched my 700sx to 136 last year. I bought a used 144 Mtn Viper tunnel ext and a 136 Poo skid. I thought the 136 struggled a bit more that I thought it would, so this year I'm stretching it further to a 144". I used a 136" Ripsaw last year because I got a good deal on it. This year I found a 144" Ripsaw at Haydays (also a good deal). Eventually (if I keep it for many more years) I'll probably use something other than a Ripsaw... I'm glad I went with a 144 tunnel ext, it'll be one less thing I have to do this year.
My 136" Ripsaw will be going on the '90 Phazer II I bought this summer. If you find used stuff, there are some great write-ups in the tech section that will help you. Of course there are alot of great members on here that will also be glad to help. Just my 2¢ but you can save yourself quite a bit of money buying used.
