Viper first start with pipes high hanging idle problem??

Hello,
I just got to start my viper with pipes for the first time today. When I start it it idles fine but if you hit the throttle a couple of times the rpms go way up and don't come down.

I think it was doing this last year also but not as noticeable as it does now. What could be causing this problem.

My mods i have made since last year are bender pipes, carbon fiber reeds, reed spacers, mpi peak head with 22cc domes.

I am not sure what rpms it gets to but it is not high enough to engage. I have not done anything to the clutches from stock yet.

ANyone know what's going on?
 
Throttle cable too tight?? Idle screw turned in too far?? Air leak - carb boots not seated or something?? Fuel screw needs to be turned out?? Too small of pilots in conjunction with fuel screw setting?? That would be where I'd start.
 
Well my pilots are 55s like bender said and I think my fuel screw is at 1 1/4. I just put in new throttle cables and they are not to tight.
 
I had this problem with my viper and it would idle at 3500-4000rpm once i hit the gas and would not come down. Turn the idle to 1500rpm or lower, anything higher will make it were the rpm will not come down once you rev it. Worked for me and another guy I told on the HCS website. Good luck.

Mine would come down when you hit the choke. He has the pilots and fuel screws where bender says to have them. Having it at 1500rpm or lower will fix it. Vipers dont like running at an idle of 1800rpm when their piped.
 
Yes it does drop down when I hit the choke. I will try idleing it at about 1500 tonight and let ya know what happens.

Turn those screws out to at least 2. Stock is 1 7/8 If i remeber off top of my head. I ran my piped viper at 2 1/4 turns out. And like said turn the idle down and that should cure it. Idle hang is common on vipers even more so when piped.

Yea i had a friend do the clutching for me on my viper, I took it out for a test drive and it was doing the same thing last year. I was wonder what was going on. He told me to idle it down to 1500rpm. All the vipers he has worked on with pipes he had to idle them down.
 
Fuel screws

If the idle drops when you hit the choke it is a lean condition. Turn the fuel screws out to like 2 1/4.
