.020 should be safe with no problems just run premium fuel all it will help with is bottom end and trottle response and it will bring the torque of the motor up a little

Thanks will give it a try when i pull it out. do i need to run copper head gaskets? going to go to a mikuni 36" round slide as well
You can cut them .020 and use copper head gaskets, and still have about .060 squish, but the compression will be up there. Prob around 145 with stock porting.

the vin on the chassic will tell you what year it is, i think there is a thread about this.Verify the year of manufacture with the 10th digit. The years 1971 to 1979 and 2001 to 2009 are signified by the digits one through nine. The letters A through Y, skipping the letter I, signify 1980 to 2000. The letter A is recycled for 2010.

Not sure Yamaha Nutz just said .020 was safe on high test. would have to measure, not sure how to measure squish.
