Can i take a drive axle from a 2001 SXR700 and put it in a 2002 viper.
I had put a 1.25 track with studs in my SXR and 8 tooth drivers and wondered if i could use the drive in a viper. the viper would be getting 1.352 cobra or 1.25 ripsaw in a 136"

spedometer reader is different, but i think it will still work. vipers are electronic spedometer pickup, where all previouse sleds were mechanical with the litle stem that stuck in the end of the shaft in the little square hole.
the hole in the end is round on the viper ones
i have used viper ones on older sleds (just filled the hole in the end with jb weld and stuck the little stem in there so the spedometer will work) but i have never tried the earlier ones into a viper, still a smooth round shaft for the spedometer drive to lay against so im thinking it should work.

It will not work. There is no threaded hole in the end, you can just press the drivers off and back on. If you need a correct shaft, I have them. If the speedo working doesn't bother you the one from the sxr will work fine.

good to know. I will be better off pulling the drivers off the sxr. I had 1000 miles on them or i could spend the 80 bucks for another set. . I havent bought the viper yet. it just came up for sale at a local dealership it hasnt been liscenced since 2007 and has 1300 miles on it.

I have a 1.25in ripsaw studded on my 03 viper with the stock nine tooth drivers. I have not had a problem. My dads 02 vmax also has a 1.25in ripsaw studded too.

I didn't think there was any difference between the Viper and SRX but perhaps there is. A 1.25 with studs will not work in my '01 SRX. Perhaps the sizing differences between different track/stud mfgs. is the reason. Dunno.
I have a 1" agressor (lugs clipped at the window) with 1.175" gold diggers and unless I run the track at spec I get slight contact with the rear HX.
Food for thought.

On both tracks we had to clip down the lugs at the window so the track would not be rubbing on the front heat exchanger and the tunnel protectors. Idk why but my track is looser then spec and it doesnt hit the rear heat exchanger and its the srx exchanger. I know others on here said they have problems with studs hitting the exchanger in the back even with 1in tracks. It doesnt make sense.

I'm one of them. You are the only pro-action sled on TY I've read about that hasn't had issues with a studded 1.25 track. You must be doing something right!

I just don't understand way. I trail ride, got out in the snow and hit jumps. Never have even bottomed out my sled before. I know Super1c said his studs hit the rear heat exchanger on his viper and its never left the ground.

I bought mine viper three years ago in the fall from a guy that never used it, he bought it from a guy that was a snowmobile tech which was the first owner of the sled. It only had over 1000 miles on it and had a 1in track with the longer studs on it. It had no stud marks on any of the heat exchangers. I don't understand, like snomfo said im the only one on here that has had luck with a 1.25in studded track.
