Going to do a top end rebuild on my 02 Viper. Wondering if i should go OE or aftermarket on the parts?? Any suggestions on any other things to do to it since i have it apart?

you might as well pull it out, tear it all the way down and do crank seals and check out the crank bearings. go with oem parts. my 2 cents

That sounds like a hell of a job. Is it a big one?

It is really not a bad job to rebuild the top end and bottom end of the engine. I am in the process of assembling three 2000 SRX 700 engines. You will get a ton of help and advise from the experienced members of this site. One engine had 13000 miles on it and suffered from a lean burn down but I was planning a complete rebuild anyway, could have done without all teh damage though. The second engine had about 1800 miles on the odometer but I bought the sled used and found some suspicious examples of shoddy work on the engine so I decided to disassemble it, inspect it and replace all the gaskets, seals and rings. The third engine is a spare which I am assembling from a variety of new and used parts.
With 4000 miles on the clock, it is definitely worthwhile to check teh entire engine. It is cheap insurance against having a worn seal cause an air leak resulting in a lean burn down which will cause expensive damage.
I sent the crankshafts from all three engines to Jeff at Midwest Crankshafts to have them checked/repaired. Again, cheap insurance to do the job right.

Can i hone the cylinders myself or should i take them to a machine shop? i think the cylinders are nickle plated?
no need to hone.. Just deglaze them with a red 3m scrub pad. Cross hatch should still be visible. If not, send it out for a replate.
