Anyone find an alternative to the 25$ exhaust pipe donuts? Can RTV be used in it's place?

i don't think you can run just the sealant if that's what you're asking. you can keep your old gasket on there and apply a copper rtv sealant you can use, it will not burn off. Only problem is that it will be a PITA because you will have to remove/clean off the old sealant and apply new sealant everytime remove your pipe

did you give it a couple days to harden/dry out at room temp. I works wonders for bike header, and that header pipe gets red hotmadzx2 said:been there done that. i used the copper rvt to get me through a couple rides and it melted and made a big mess. i bought the donuts and was glad i did.

1. Squeeze out hardening type RTV into a can from the recyclables.
2. Add a tablespoon at a time of thinner(I use naptha) until your happy with the consistancy.
3. Roll out a coarse(00)roll of steel wool.
4. Spread on the RTV mixture and work it into the wool.
5. Roll it up tight to the desired size.
Yea yea I know....purty dern redneck. But, it will definately get ya through.

I use the copper rtv with my doughnuts with good success. my pipes come off and on alot and it only takes a few times for new doughnuts to lose their seal without it. I also use extra springs besides the factory springs at variouse points to keep them from moving around

I just ended up buying one. The other two will get sealed up with copper rtv.

Of all the parts and pieces the aftermarket companies like to build/modify why someone hasn't come up with an alternative to the stock SRX exhaust gasket is beyond me.I guess if your careful they do last quite a long time it's just one of those things that of all the bits and pieces you can buy you still have to go oem for these.

Older worn out ones can be built up using strips of wool wrapped @ the donut w/ RTV worked in.
