Hi guys I removed my skid for a first time to day cause I'm going to replace a track and need to replace bearings in the skid so I'll let the picture speak for them self's

in first pic you just remove the nut on the left and push shaft thru, all spacers and wheels will fall off.Do it slowly and collect every washer/spacer/wheel as it comes off and lay them down side by side. Then when it comes to putting back..reverse the order of parts.

In the second pic it is a little tougher. You can pound the end of the shaft and try to force it one direction.I took a 4 by 4 block of wood, drilled a 1 inch hole thru it..flipped the skid sideways until one end of shaft sits in the hole and then you can pound with a block against the other end..OR

try taking the c-clip out of 1 wheel(will be facing on the inside of wheel) and then taping plastic wheel off the bearing. Then take a bearing puller and pull that bearing off.Once done..you can slide the shaft thru to inspect and then change you bushings in the frame where shaft goes into .

If that's an 02 Viper like mine, those 2 sets of wheels the uppers and the axle wheels have permanent bearing and are not replaceable. You either have to cough up seventy some backs a piece or go to a different yamaha wheel that has the replaceable bearings. My uppers were off an srx I believe and the rear axles were from an RX1. Then it's just a matter of 6205 bearings for the uppers and 6004 bearings for the axle when you want to replace them. The upper shaft can be a bear to get off. Just be careful of the threads on the inside of the shaft as you drive it off. Gil

it's a viper skid why on earth did Yamaha not have replaceable bearings in this :o|

but thx for the info guys

now that is crazy if them bearings can't be replaced and have to buy all new wheels yet..who was the engineer on this and it should be the same wheels as the SRX/SXR..etc..don't make sense...must of been drinking a lot of Sake that day :die: ;):D ;):D

They get $77 buck a piece for those wheels. That's why I bought new wheels off another model with replacesable bearings to eliminate that problem and save me a bunch of money too!! Gil

I wander that if you heat the wheel up with a heat gun that maybe you could pry the bearing out..I had marginal wheels once from Pioneer that were like that..I could force them out..repack them and force back in.But eventually one of the wheels came off when riding. So I took the 2 extra small upper idler wheels that I had as spare from extra skid and they fit and can replace bearings on them easily enough.

You still can repack the bearings, the rubber seals come out but you cannot change out the actuall bearing. I also changed all of mine over to SRX style wheels with the removable bearing. I kept the others as good spares. Blue i looked them over pretty good and it looks like the bearing is molded into the wheel? Not sure why they ever did that. But at the very least you can still clean and repac the bearings, just cant take em out to do it.

ok super..I just don't have 1 in front of me to compare..but I do believe ya... ;)!

Bluemonster, i hope i didnt come across in type like i was trying debunk your idea on getting them out, i was just confirming that the original viper carrier wheels had nonreplaceable bearings. I know how things can come across different when we put them in type. I apoligize if i came across that way. No disrespect intended. Chris

I cant be 100% sure because I also dont have one in front of me, but I think the OEM replacements that look the same as the originals, have bearings that can be replaced. Just the stockers are molded. I took off the gray ones to put on red ones and they can be replaced (refer back to the first sentenence). :-)

The uppers are tough to get off, I tried last winter and gave up. Need to change them now. Will try Blues idea or maybe make some kind of press to push them out.

I have banged them off while skid was in the tunnel, removed bolts to drop the wheels downout of tunnel and used big hammer .I kept the metal bushing on over the shaft to bang against and destroyed it..Put bunch of washers under the bolt and taped the bolt head also..noticed that I was damaging the shaft now.Wasn't easy to do..but then used a socket to slide over shaft as well and nailed it..I remember doing this years ago in order to slide shaft out to be able to install my adjustable transfer rod.

Now the skid comes out to remove the upper wheels. But the easiest way is to remove c-clip from 1 wheel and tap the wheel off then pull bearing with puller..less damage this way.Found that by banging at the shaft end was slowly deforming the shaft end.

Chris not to worry!!!.I do believe you....
