crank recall on 700 triple

There were 2 crank issues.....97 700 single pipe motors had probs with a pto crank bearing & the 98 SRX 600 & 700 engines had to have the cranks straightened & welded. Your engine is bulletproof!!!!

Well Turk not quite bulletproof...Took her out on the lake on Tuesday got about 5 miles across and poof. Got her all apart in the garage and its the inside PTO bearing on the crank, the one right beside the lobe or counterbalance. Sled is an '02 with only 1600 miles. From what I can find out this is not something that occurs alot.
Anyone know if Yamaha will Warranty this???
Dealer also says I should replace the piece of crank as well(approx. $300 cdn) as the heat from the bum bearing may have altered the shape of it.
Anyone have any experience with this???
Last question...Dealer has a 2003 used Viper with 2500 km. I think I can trade for $3,500 differance or a NEW 2004 Viper(red) for $5,000 diff. Keep in mind I'd be trading her off in pieces. I'd like to see anyone's opinions on this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Improper summerization( not fogging) will cause the crank bearings to get fine pieces of corrosion & rust from moisture & ultimately they will fail. I can line you up with a 02 Viper in ND with 250 miles for $3800($4300 CDN) They are easy to import..been der dun dat. Fix the mm & sell it...they are real easy to sell.

Turk

Turk how common is this, I haven't had this problem(yet:shock:), but I guess I never really understood fogging either I guess. I thought it was mostly for the carbs, which I pull and clean every year. I do spray the cylinders. :o| Soc

I run my sleds a few times over the summer & pull the oil cable out of the seat so I get max lube in the crankcase. This runs a lot of oil & coats the internal parts against condensation. Fogging the engine does the same thing but then if you run the sled you negate the coating.
