Is it possible to beat a stock apex, with a stock piped viper? I tinkered with my clutches last winter, had it pretty close to what i thought was good enough... ended up being neck and neck with a stock nytro (he was running back to back drags and weighted 250+ lbs so not too impressive) I was just wondering if it was possible to keep with a stock apex on my viper with the stock pipe?

maybe shorter runs but not on topend.

you would be suprised at how decent a stock piped viper can do against other sleds if the clutching is spot on and it actually gets traction without blowing the track off.

two words if want any kind of chance- Heel Clickers!

Sounds weird, not shure how much better the fx runs but my rs nytro only runs neck and neck with my brothers viper(until top end anyways). Both are stock other than the viper has a higher engagement rpm

Was not the case until he put on a good track and got hooked up. X2 on mrvipers info

Helix

I've had better success with different helix's which may help you in your search. Look for a 48/36 or my personal favorite 48/34. Dalton cut or exuivalent angles is best.

my brothers viper and my war run pretty close. both have trail clutching and he is 136'd. off trail on the lake he jumps me out of the hole (heel clickers) and pulls me a bit in the midrange but top end is the same.

ontrail or good hardpack, he and i are the same untill 80mph and then i start pulling him on top and he weighs 75lb less than i do.

his viper is sneaky fast/strong as he has wupped some 800/900 cats and some 800 doos.

I'll concur with what Matt said regarding those helix angles in a stock Viper. He's built some pretty strong running Vipers. Those helix angles will be your best bet for top end along with Heel Clicker weights/spring.

If your stock piped Viper has a strong clutch set up and decent traction you should be able to close the gap pretty good.

I don't think that a stock Viper will ever pull a decent running stock Apex on the big end, but depending on how the two sleds are set up for the race you could give the Apex owner fits if he's not on the ball with his set up.

no i was just wondering about a long field on the trail, i'm not to concerned about a lake as my sled isn't a top speed viper, i'm going to start looking for one of those two helix's, thanks guys, any more input, i'm all ears! I was just wondering because we have two apex's (mom's and dad's) next to the two vipers (brothers and mine) i was just wondering if i could get it to the point of pulling or being neck and neck with the apex's haha. i have a hard time keeping with my brother's viper out of the hole but he's a big guy and traction isn't an issue for him.
