I just got this 78 Yamaha Exciter and was going over it and getting it ready for this season and found a issue with the chain case. What I was wondering is if this hole is sapose to be pluged? Wouldnt snow get in there?

Part of the chaincase vent system.

No worries. Supposed to be there and open like in your pic.

Where is the chain tension er, on the inside of the case cover? Old age...lol

OK Grandpa (you asked fer it). ;)!

It's on the rear (footwell) side of the inner half of the chaincase. A bit lower than that hole on the front side.

I had a 78 exciter 440 back in the day.Never new anything about a chain tensioner.....lol. In them days we just rode the sleds, never checked anything on them and still put on 5000 miles and then traded it in.Great little sled and took so much abuse from me riding it to the max and never dissapointed me ever.

Thanks opsled!

Never knew that- chain tensioner??? That sounds like it could lead to something that would entail using the "m" word (maintenance). I thought that unless you were modifying a fanner Exciter, you never had to work on them. Right??!!?

Love the sled.
