I have a 99 mountain max 136 with 144 extension.I would like to know if there is some mods i can do to the rear skid while its out. It has a mpi tunnel and i belive the suspension was relocated on the rails to 2000 specs. I would like to know if aluminum body shocks from a srx or ? would be better? should i change from the w arm to the h arm?
SRX shocks are shorter so you would not want them. But fox floats can be made to fit.

Ditch the rear rods and put in a transfer enhancement strap kit. You'll save 5 lbs and its a cheap mod. New bushings would be in order also if they've never been replaced. Putting in a 'new' h arm would also be nice, but you'd probably be money ahead by getting a totally different used skid, cat, polaris for about the same price.

I have a transfer enhancment kit if your interested I will sell it to you for 35 dollars plus shipping. It is brand new never been used. When I bought it I never got a chance to put it in the sled and now I have decided not to use it.
