Hey guys, i picked up a 98 srx 700 real cheap, starts right up seems to run real good, i did a compression test and i was 120 across, seems low, I looked at the front side of the rings and pistons through the PV opening...ya i know you cant tell much or see the back side, but looks clean and good, suggestions? I also did the test with the exhaust pipes off. Thanks !
How many miles? Have been told for best performance rings should be changed every 5-6k. 120psi is about right but can not tell much until doing a leak down test.

it has 6500 miles. So 120 isnt low?
No 120 is pretty good.
The fact that they are all so close to the same is the best sign though.

I know having them close is good, but i always thought 130 was what you needed, well that makes me happy~!

I personally feel regardless of the number (they vary based on testers) what you want is EVEN compression across all 3. Ive seen first hand where one tester says 120 and another say 128 on same engine
no matter what the number, you want the same number across all 3 cyls

Altitude changes PSI as well. with todays fuel I would recomendpulling carbs and giving them a good cleaning. While you have carbs off pull the reeds and cages for a veiw of the back side of the pistons and I think you can get a some whatt obstructedveiw of the crank too.

so i shouldn't bother changing the rings
