confused

Im new to this computer stuff, so please bear with me ! A good friend give me a mid 80:s yamaha sled, an excell 340 that runs great, butt i cant figure out what year it is, vin # stamped on right hand side of tunnel is 8T7-121217. Any help would be great!

I would say a 1987 ..just guessing.There should be a 17 digit code in the vin.The #10 digit should be the year..You didn't give the full 17 digit vin here.
