Going to use boyesen power reeds on my viper. Thought about spacers and or notching the cages. I've found old posts saying that the distance to the reed cages are longer in a viper than previous model sleds so there is no need for either mod. Anyone have fist hand experience with doing either mod on a viper? I know they don't do alot anyways, with sleds in the past I have done this to it made them sound alot smoother at an idle and made them a little more responsive. Thanks in advance

the notch wont be of any value on a srx/viper. You are correct as the case is longer then a red head and those motors are what gain from the notch or use of spacers, it helps get the reed open and out from under the ledge in the case. The spacers will work on a viper/srx but the hp gain on a stock engine isnt going to be noticeable, its like 1-2hp, more so on a modded engine. You would be likely further ahead money wise vs performance to just opening up the reed stops.

I knew they colony do much for power, the redheads I did it on was more response I noticed than anything. My sled is not highly nodded but does have bender ceramic coated tripple pipes. Should be good to know on that distance to open them up, helps for others that might search this thread in the future also. Thanks

Well i found spacers very cheap near by here so i will try them out.
Also gonna open my reed stops but if you open them to much they might not fit?
(hits the case?) I'll be back..

i opened up my reed stops , it was a nice cheap mod, open them up so that when you install the reeds you have to slightly pintch them so they will go back in the enigne case. keep a eye on your RPM after doing that i had to put more weight on the fly weights. happy moding
