SPI pistons

Most people suggest going oem for pistons. I have a buddy that rides an mxz that was rebuilt using spi pistons amd he hasn't had any problems.

those pistons work just fine. most people do stick to OEM around here and I myself like OEM, but have personally used them pistons before w/no issues.

i run them in my sled i cant realy say anything good or bad about them they have performed well and the price was right.

Do i think they will outlast the orginals..........probably not
Do i think i will put the same amount of miles on this old sled as i did with the originals...no

.

I prefer OEM as well, don't have any experience with others as far as sleds go.

well now im really up in the air . I guess i will think about it for a week or so they dont seem bad . You can get them for half the price as oem :o| ...

Spi pistons are ok. They are cast much like OEM. I prefer forged pistons, but they tend to cold seize if not warmed properly. You would be fine with either. I change pistons at 6k whether they need them or not, with a ring change at 3k. If you change pistons often go with the SPI. If you want long turn durability go with wesico or oem.

there is nothing like original pistons.Yamaha's quality is good. You want the engine to perform well as Yamaha intended..then I would go only with OEM.Saving a few bucks may cost you more if your engine blows.

I dont think you will find anyone say spi are crap!!Other than guys that dont have any pratical expereance and only say what the rest of the herd are mooing.

I put them in after a speed shop i was useing recomended them....this was after i layed out large for a brand new crank from yamaha and ported my jugs for the rebuild.

That was 2 years ago with lots of fast running on the lakes and like i said thumbs up!If you let the rings wear down to the point the pistons can slap the walls originals wont hold up any better than the rest.

spi pistoms

i have used spi in a ported and piped sxr 700 and 3 years of very hard riding and 4,000 miles, not a problem. I have the motor apart now putting in 3 new spi's just for insurance but the pistons that came out look perfect.
