I have a scored jug and melted magneto side piston on my 1998 VMax.

I am trying to replace the piston and jug and get it running again...

So I was wondering if there is a guide to replacing a detonated piston anywhere?

This would be my first time and I need a step by step on how to do it..so far all I know is to trade in for a replated jug, order a new piston and rings, also someone said order a new wrist pin, circlips and gasket set too..

Any how to guides?

you melted that mag piston for a reason, you need to find out why, if you jus throw a piston and new cylinder in it with out finding the cause, it will go down again ;)!

your seal may be leaking or your carbs dirty..if it is a seal, change both..you have to split cases and then might as well check your crank bearings for signs of rust and connecting rod play.I split cases and rebuilt 2 motors first time ever last fall and went slow, got all the info from manual and on here when I came to an issue.Put it all back together and motors are strong last season.Probably when cases are split..replace water pump seals also. You can check my thread on my rebuild from last year..do a search on SRX rebuild.

Definately need to look into the cause of the burn down, or it will be right back as stated! If youve never delt with this before just ask and you will get plenty of help.
You can usually find someone close to you that has the knowledge to come by and help you the first time. Where in Illinois are you located?
