I talked to a friend that told me that he took the air box off ( viper)and sprayed BRAKE CLEANER into the ports that connect to the PILOT JETS and he didn't have to take the carbs off to clean them out.. The BRAKE CLEANER WORKED... He took the straw and blew brake cleaner right into the ports.... He said it worked FINE... ???????

It depends how dirty they are. The cleaner may disolve some varnish. But if you are going to bother taking the airbox out you might as well remove the carbs and do it right. 30 minutes of time to prevent a burn down is worth it. Besides the needle valve needs to be cleaned anyway. No way of getting at that with the carbs on.

its not just the Pilots that need cleaning....that is the lazy mans method..not fool proof. You have to get dirty to get it clean.I clean mine complete at beginning of season and run good fuel.My carbs stay clean the whole season then. Now you guys that run with ethanol..that is a completely different beast to contend with. You probably have to clean carbs after motor has been sitting without run time after 2 weeks..

GREAT IDEA!!!! Blow the dirty that is plugging the carb back down into the floatbowl so that on the first ride you can suck it back up and plug the same jet = BURNDOWN! LMAO

you got that right... ;)!

Not to mention the initial startup on some unknown quantity of dirty brake cleaner instead of gasoline. Wonder how much of that brake cleaner made its way into the engine during that gunk down & carb cleaning?

Bluemonster1... wanna do mine for me? A short trip to Ontario. :D
I wish I could jsut see someone do it once... Any video's out there? then I could do it no problem!

Hey guys, who cares how another guy cleans his carbs. Really, who cares. If youwant to disagree, fine. But this cutting a guy down part? I don't get it. This name calling is ridiculous.

X2 - I too think it's silly, dangerous or even a bit lazy - but idiot and stupid?

Sheesh.

Personally, I thought it was a pretty DUMB IDEA.... just wanted to get some opinions if anyone ever tried it??? He's a guy that I snowmobile with that doesn't want to repack his wheel bearings ... He thinks they will be just fine ...

Such a bad idea. I always take mine apart.

I took mine out this season, just for piece of mind (even though I treated with stabil). Low and behold, there was sludge buildup. I think some of the gas evaporated and left behind deposits.
