heated grips help

So my 85 ss440 had heated grips when I got it but they are not hooked up. I am looking into getting them hooked up for this season but I have some questions. The person who put them on (i'm thinking they are not stock) wired them in series. The power in goes to one, then to the other then back down the handle bars. I'm thinking that is wrong and they should be in parallel. They are genuine Yamaha, they have the Yamaha logo on them, the words "hot grips" and it says they are 15w/6v.

Anyone know if these are supposed to be wired in parallel or series?
