Picked up a 02 srx this summer with 2500 miles...sleds at a buddy's gettng a whole new tp end on it. He just called me with some concerns. The mag side connecting rod bearing has a little play in it. He said its very little and he almost didn't notice it, but its there. I'm not sure what to do here considering funds and time are short...before it was tore apart I didn't. Hear any knocking and it ran fine. Ill probably only put 1000 miles on this season, but what are the odds this will come back to bite me if I run it as is this season?

101% chance of future engine failure, you either fix it now or likely junk the whole engine when it fails ,it will take alot more with it. The more it runs the more the lower bearing gets beat and the bigger the clearance becomes then it just self destructs :o|

That pretty much sums up my fears. Saying I do pull the motor, what options do I have with the crank? Where can I get one? Who rebuilds them?

All engines have a 100% chance of failure. The question is when. I'd run it and check freeplay mid season. If it goes it will probably take the cylinder with it. Either way you are out a crank.

I dont wanna argue but thats pretty inconsiderate to tell someone to run a crank with known damage and "they will just be out a crank"
When the lower rod lets go do you think it will be at idle or at 8500rpm? The rod bearing failure will destroy the crankcase, crankshaft, cylinder, piston, head, seems pretty foolish to me but ... I just work on em.. :o|

I had no idea the damage would be that great. The few I've seen go haven't been that bad. Just an FYI you are allowed 1mm in free play.

Id say it comes down to this if you cant afford to fix it then you take your chances. Who knows it might last the season or it could leave you walking a distance in the cold. You know going on there is a problem.

From one who has taken that chance in the past...FIX IT now. Otherwise that money you're putting into the top end could be a waste. Don't get me wrong, there are odds here depending on how bad the play is.
