I took the heat shields off my stock pipe for polishing and pipe painting. The straps were getting loose and starting to rattle,so I would like to replace them with adjustable ones.Does anyone know where I can find these? I'm sure an oversize hose clamp could work, but it would look like s***.

Other than Grienger's or Mcmaster-carr, you can find large stainless worm gear clamps in the plumbing isle (not the dryer/HVAC isle) at Home D.

Not as clean looking as the OEM banding strap which requires a special clamping tool and collar but if you place the worm gear on the underside of the pipes it ain't so bad.

If you go to a parts store, ask for windup boot clamps. They use a special tool to wind them tight but for the pipe covers, you can pull them tight enough by hand.

I have some of these on the way. I couldn't remember what length was required to get around the fattest part of the pipes so I just bought the 24" long ones. They are 5/16" x 24". They have other lengths also. Just be sure to get the 5/16" wide ones. The picture says 5/8" wide but they are actually 5/16 as it reads in the description.

Looks like someone flunked conversion 101 (they call the 4mm 3/8" - LOL) Very cool. Thanks for the link.

Just wanted to say thanks for info. Had to do a quick weld on my wifes viper pipe (blew a crack in it post back fire) and these will work perfect. $2 a piece at HD!

My pleasure Chris. I sent my better half up to HD one day and she brought back the cheap-o ones and that's when I found out they sell both cheap-o's (in the HVAC isle) and stainless in Plumbing.

oh, and it was my fault ;>)
