Well i finally got my reverse installed on my 04 viper S. I am running the stock 1 1/4 ripsaw with 8 tooth drivers. When installing the reverse i also discovered it was geared for the 8 tooth drivers. 23 top tooth, 37 bottom. I only discovered this after i tried to install the reverse gear and it wouldnt fit together with the chain being so tight. Lucky for me i had a stock 22 tooth top gear laying around to i got everything together fine. But i am now running stock gearing 22/38 with 8 tooth drivers. So on to my questions.
1) If im a hanging with my buddies on the river and riding trails with the daughter and wife rider now do i need to worry about changing back to the 23/37 gearing? Not worried about loosing holeshot, speed, top end ect.... I just want it to run smooth and not jerky.
2) If i do go back to the 23/37 gearing (for the 8 tooth drivers) over the stock 22/38 gearing (that im using for my reverse now) what part of that reverse gear do i need to change? Just the reverse gear that rides on the chain closest to the chaincase (right now the 38 tooth gear) or do both reverse gears (the one closest to the chain case and the one that sits on top of that one) need to be changed also. If that makes sence? Just need to know what to buy if changing to the 23/37 gearing for my reverse. And im sure a 37 tooth reverse gear will be near impossible to find? Or a million dollars from a dealer. Thanks for any help guys!!! Chris
