01 SRX long travel

I have an 01 SRX and I'd like to turn the rear skid to a long travel. My first question is how do I get the top idler wheels off to put longer control arms on? From what I understand I need to get a rear shock from a viper. Also, I need limiter straps from a viper as well. Is this correct? I've heard numerous answers on here. Please help me. Snow is comming soon!
 

drop the skid..remove the c-clip behind them wheels..tap the wheels off.Now you have exposed the bearings.Use a small 3 arm puller and pop them off easy like.Really have to do 1 side and then push shaft thru and out and the transfer rod arm will be off.Hurry up..snow is coming...lol. I just tore into my 3rd skid yesterday,removed all wheels and replaced all bearing and tightened everything up.
 
Its been so long sinece I use to work on them I can't remember anymore,lol
Wow I'm getting old.

Don't quote me on this but I think the 2000 and newer srx limiter straps are longer then the 98-99's.I kinow the transfer rods are longer.
 
Mine has the short transfer rods, but I have long ones. I must be old aswell, because I looked for C clips and didn't see any. lol Thanks guys!

the c-clips are what holds the bearings onto the large wheels..look behind..they are there or else take a large hammer and bang that axle until the wheel pops off.Can be done because that is how I did mine originally years back(didn't know better)BUT you can and will mushroom the damn shaft.Even with the bolt in the threaded hole..still drestroyed the axle end..it is only Aluminum..can only take so many smacks before it deforms.... :o| At least I have an extra skid here to steal parts from.. ;)!

Jeff it isn't a good pic..but what he needs to see..it is good..never thought of that pic.Thanks for the info...want to race??????River frozen yet????River is low this year so it should freeze faster.Snow is coming tomorrow night...I'll be riding the ditch a bit..
