Last winter while doing some pow riding a friend recommended I remove the sway bar on my 98 SRX 700. He suggested that it would make the handling better for pow conditions. I have read many blogs about other sleds removing the sway bar, but never the SRX. Anyone have any info on this? I also read that you can unbolt one side of the bar to test ride the sled beforehand.

My cousin removed it from his '98 Mtn SRX. It definitely helps when wanting to pull the sled over to carve, side-hill, etc. Yes, you can unhook it to see if you like it. It is time consuming to remove...my impatient cousin cut one end off and pulled it out. Fast removal, but can't be re-installed. That being said, he doesn't miss it, but we ride POW all the time. If you ride POW once in a while, but mainly run trails, realize that no sway bar will make it body roll quite a bit more through corners.
Sounds like you're on the right track, unhook it and see what you think first.
