i have a 2002 viper with a hauck viper kit the mixture screws are out 2 1/4 turns out but the idle still hangs at 4000rpm will not come back down from their i shut it off and wait a min and restart it up the idel is fine untill you rev it over 4000 and then it hangs their will not come back down anyone have any ideas

check your cables make sure your throttle cable isnt pulling out of its sheath and getting stuck. another possibility you could have what i like to call a dil. direct intake leak. could be from a cracked carb boot, crank seal, around where the reed cage bolts in.. etc. start with simple first though.

start it. make it do its idol hang thing. pull sprk plug wire one at a time with insulated pliers or with hand if brave. see what the motor does. it will let you know if 1 cylinder is pushing the other 2. or if its a problem with all three getting too much air. or fuel.

My viper did the same when i piped it. Would rev it past 4000rpm and would not come back down. Idle the engine down to 1500rpm or less at idle. Seems to do the trick.

Does it come down when you use the choke? This would tell ya if your running lean. I ran my piped viper at 2 1/2 turns ish and lowered idle to 1200. The vipers love to hang when piped and even stock on occasion.

I read somewhere once that 2 stroke pipes have a peak temperature and efficiency range. It could just be that the pipes are returning enough of a fuel charge to the engine at a given temp to keep the idle high.
Choking it down cools the pipe and allows the idle to drop.

Yea mine would come down when i hit the choke. It also didn't help that at the time i didn't know that some company, didn't do my head mod right. I ended up finding that out 60 miles later after i put the modded head on when it ate a piston. Its bad when you check the compression and get 115 85 175 when you were told that all them should be 125. I still give those guys credit for making it right with me. I have heard from many guys that have to idle their vipers down because of the hang. It seems like 1500rpm and under fixes it.
