well it started by just wanting to put a new track on, then noticed the secondary needed some attn, then the jackshaft bearing on both the clutch and chaincase side was sticking , as well as some bogies and idlers.. SO just wanna start a thread, so If I get in a bind you guys will know whats up
Also picked up this just to get the bearing off the clutch side of the jackshaft

I just ordered a jackshaft bearing kit, since both lower Bearings were bad.. ( lower chaincase bearing was grinding , and the clutch side bearing took some damage getting it off with the 3 jaw.. But I just need to know what bearing sizes to get for the skid

if you get the old bearings out they will have #'s on them. If not I'm sure someone will chime in with them.
Order the OEM jackshaft and driveshaft bearings. That style is a little harder to match up aftermarket. They are pricey about 30$ a bearing. The skid bearings you can get aftermarket pretty cheap around $3 a bearing. Chain case bearings I went with Timkens which were about 11$ and are a better bearing then the oem ones and were 1/3 the price. On the chain case bearings, Get sealed bearings and remove the OUTER seal this what yamaha switched to after 97. The seal will still let the chain case oil in, but prevent the fine metal shavings from entering the bearing. While you have the drive shaft out I would recommend upgrading to one with 4 drivers on it instead of the stock one on the 97 which only has 2 drivers. I bought a used one for $40 then had my buddy true up all the drivers on a lathe, Making them all the same height. You would be surprised how far they are off even when new. I am just finishing up doing all the exact same maintenance.
ok.. need some advice
Left to right .. I know the left bearing is for the clutch side , then next one looks like the lower ( jack shaft ) chaincase bearing the little washer next to it goes with the lower chaincase bearing , but i have no Idea what the one on the far right goes for ...???

also if I could get a diagram of how to put the chaincase back together that would be pretty awesome lol/// My cousin took it apart , so I didnt see how it was done

If I remember right both the top and bottom chaincase bearings are the same. It's the seals that are different. If you go to any parts fishce (sic) on a yamaha dealers website, they give really good expolded views of the chaincase. Gil
Yeah both inner chain case bearings are the same. Weird that only one has a seal on it though. Probably the lower one has the seal would be my guess as it sits in the oil all the time. I left the seals on both of mine. Both outside chain case seals are the same part #

That should take you to the microfiche of the chain case.

Snap ring pliers. Not something you use a lot, So I'd get the set from Harbor Freight. Its like $20 or something for a set of misc sizes. Normally I wont buy a damn thing from them, But if you buy high end snap ring pliers they are around that much a piece. Here is a link to the cheapest bearings I have found for the bogey wheels:
https://www.vxb.com/
I bought the 8 pack and 10 pack of the bearings to give me a few spares. Came to like $45 or so. vs. around $150 oem. We will see how these hold up. They list snowmobiles as an application.

Comatoast, I see you're in MN, if you are anywhere near a Motion Industries location they can match up the bearings for you, and probably have everything in stock. I live in the northern burbs of the Twin Cities and there is one in Roseville. But you can look them up online and find their other locations. They have been very helpful, and you usually can walk out with the bearings you need on the same visit.

I just finished up doing the same! Nice job! I installed an '02 Viper skid, and now it appears that I need the wide front end kit to sort out suspension issues.. *sigh* You're never truly "done" are you?

i think most of the bogie wheel bearing are a 6205-2RS... any reputiable shop should be able to order bearings from an aftermarket distributor other than OEM... Marshall Distributing sells bearing for around $4-10...

Looks like your doing a good job. I just rebuilt my skid and bought a bearing puller like this one. It was worth every dollar. Saved me a lot of pounding and frustration. You will want a decent snap ring plier for the circlips. I had a cheap one and it just wasn't cutting it. Finally went to sears and bought some good ones.

Yea actually mine are 6204 and 6200 rs.... Weird size I guess??
Any who.. I got all the bogies off, and sprayed them down with PB blaster, let them sit for an hour, went back out grabbed a 7/8 socket and a rubber mallet hammer and tried to beat them out, and NOTHING, they wont even budge
the circlips were much easier than expected as well .. I just took 2 nail sets, and used a set of pliers to pull the nail sets together and they popped right out
FYI noone but Harbor freight circlip pullers/.. absolute garbage

I am currently in the process of putting my chaincase back together as well, and the only thing I am not sure of are the "collars" (#31 and #33) on that pic. I would guess the thinner one goes on the jackshaft sprocket and the thicker collar goes on the upper? Or am I backwards?
Sorry to hijack, but you might run into the same thing.
