I know this has been asked a 1000 times over from all of the searching I've done on here but I'd like a couple of opinions on my situation.
I have a 98 SRX 700 for riding locally (don't take it anywhere). So this mainly involves: smooth trails, rough trails, very rough trails, and alot of ditch riding. As you all know this machine really only likes smooth trails and that is about it. Currently I have a pretty much stock suspension system except I do have a new set of Ohlins on the front.
Ride is not a huge issue I really need alot more clearance. Has anyone used products from pioneer performance on these sleds? Is this what I really need to go for?
I was thinking of installing both front and rear long travel kits. Will this give me much more clearance or does it just give more suspension travel? From the website it looks like it should give me some clearance
I'm pretty much open to anything so feel free to fire away.
Thanks

I'm no expert but I'm thinking that the suspension upgrades your talking about will only give you travel,if you want clearance then you will want to go with a set of lowering brackets like what Bruce has here http://www.cbperformanceparts.com/products/?pcid=230

The Pioneer set up makes a huge difference in the ride. You will get more travel and a little bit of ground clearance at the belly pan. Where are you looking to get more clearance, just from bottoming out, belly pan or tunnel clearance?

Get all four shocks from a Viper, limiter straps and transfer rod spacers. Send the shocks out for rebuild/revalve for your weight and driving style. Bolt it in and enjoy the ride

A little more clearance in the back would not be all that bad but where I really need more clearance at the belly pan and from bottoming out. I never realize that it was that bad until I rode my cousins late V-MaxET, I really like the clearance and front suspension on that compared to mine.

the viper front shocks don't just bolt up. the top mount is different. Betheviper use to sell mounts. I've made a few sets but don't have much desire to make anymore right now. you also have to cut your plastic above the upper shock mounts for the brackets to work, and they work best with the longer radius rods and tie rods of the sx/venture sleds.

I have the pioneer long travel(front and rear) under my 00 srx. bender quick steer and I dont remember if it was part of the long travel, quicksteer or something else completely different but the stance of my skis ended up a little wider and I LOVE IT! 4th wheel kit with 192 picks and full ROX running boards.

Gives you more clearance as well, raised my sled 4-5 inches in rear like 1-2 @ belly pan.fourbarrel said:I'm no expert but I'm thinking that the suspension upgrades your talking about will only give you travel,if you want clearance then you will want to go with a set of lowering brackets like what Bruce has here http://www.cbperformanceparts.com/products/?pcid=230

X2 - IMO, just adding the shocks gives you clearance and a bit more ride height but you loose some cornering ability. Adding Venture radius/tie rods widens the front end which brings back some of the cornering ability.
To paraphrase BTV - The older I get the wider I like it.

I put viper shocks on my sled. Took the bushing off of an old set of shocks I had, cut them off, welded them to a flat plate. Welded a stud on the back of them, drilled clear through on the chassis, and had 2 bolts holding the new plate onto the chassis. Had good luck with it. Guy off of here bought the sled.
I will say that the added ride height really helped the off trail capabilities of the machine. That and a set of older wide USI skis.

In my opinion - swap the skid for any of the newer much better riding, better weight transfer skids. I did many of the things mentioned here and liked the improvement, but none of them are anywhere near as much an improvement as swapping the skid.
For $500 or less and a bit of work you will have a night and day difference. I chose the 144 Nytro XTX skid for my Viper and love it. Now I am looking to do something radical with the front end to catch up to the rear. That's how modding goes, make one thing better only to move on to the next limiting factor, repeat.

Ding hit it on the head, get that rear skid out and put something else in there. I went with a sc3 Doo skid

I run a Viper skid with Ohlins and use Bethevipers front Viper shock mounts, also Ohlins, with Viper trailing arms, spingles and Pioneer wide kit. My first choice to ride except for long tours
