I am new to clutching and testing but enjoy it and would like to learn more. I have a 98 srx700 and have acquired the following items:
89a-10
8bu-10
8dn-20
8dn-10 (came with the sled)
8bu-00 (arriving soon)
A bunch of springs and rivets.
13 wide hyvo gears (18t, 19t, 20t, 21t, 22t, 23t, 38t, 39t, 40t, 41t)
I built a grunt tool for my primary (with a cnc plasma cutter) and am now able to easily take apart primary to ensure bushings are new and tight. I currently have the stock 47 helix and a Dalton 53/43. I would like to purchase 1 or 2 more helixes to test with the above weights. I would appreciate some advice as to what helixes would be good to purchase. I am not looking for a specific clutch recipe, I know I need to test myself. If you could have only three different helix angles to play around with the above weights and gears, what would they be? (I would like to stick with all Dalton, simply because I already have a Dalton and I think for testing purposes it would be good to stay with the same manufacturer)
Thanks in advance for any input.
I have attached pictures of the tool I made for separating my primary. Used plasmacam software to create the pieces. You simply mount the pipe in a vice and put a heat gun in the open end to heat up the primary. Use a 3 foot pipe wrench on the other piece and remember its LEFT HAND threads. LOL

GLAD YOU BOUGHT ALL THAT STUFF, NOW YOU CAN TEST, TEST , TEST. THAT 50/40 IS A GREAT CAM, WILL WORK WITH ALOT OF THOSE WEIGHTS, I LOVE A 51/38, REMEMBER, KNOW TWO MOTORS ARE ALIKE. HARD TO SAY, YOU HAVE TO TEST, PROBLEY NEED MORE THAN THREE. ANYWAYS SNOW CONDITIONS, DIVER WEIGHT, ELEVATION, HOOK-UP etc ALL COME INTO PLAY. HAVE FUN. I TESTED ALL THE WEIGHTS YOU LISTED. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Kinda tough to give exact because so many varibles with rivets and primary springs, rollers used, as they all will require a differnt set up but heres my opinion for somewhat aggressive use. I guess you cant go wrong with anyone of the angles for the weights, youll just have to tune it all in for the set up, like "x" amount of rivet weight, "x" kg primary spring and secondary spring tension used. Gearing also effect the clutch so you have to have a idea on what kind of mph you want to run then set up clutch after gear choice.
1.)89A10- something like 50-38,51/37,50/40
2.)8dn-10 and 8dn20
something BIG, as the 8dn weights are not that really aggressive compared to the rest of your list, 54/44,51/45,52/44
3.)8bu-00
8bu-10- 50/40,51/45

I always liked 49/43, 48/42, 47/43 helixs, with 89A10 weights. Also, if it were up to me, I wouldn't waste my time w/the 8dn-10 or 8dn-20 weights. Stick to 89A10, 8BU-00, and 8BU-10 weights. JMO.
