Have a 1997 Vmax 700 SX. Evidently, I have a bad (TPS). Where is this thing located and is it any harm to run without one?

Jim.

Well that's a good question. I have a manual and I can't find anything on a TPS. The TORS, I do see. I was told TPS, but it must be TORS. I guess the same question applies - Can it effect engine performance and is it needed?

Just throwing it out there.

Have you installed handlebar risers. if so your TPS could be fine, and you just need a throtle cable extension.

The 97 SX DID NOT have a TPS (throttle positioning sensor) on them. They do have a TORS (throttle override system?) on them though.

it's a safety feature to prevent your sled from running wild with a stuck throttle cable. it can be bypassed and run and will not affect performance but you will also lose that safety feature. I run mine bypassed on my srx because I don't run stock carbs, I just run a tether switch
