Hi, I have yet to see a published number from yamaha or anywhere else. When I bought my 01 brand new, the dealer said about 120. Did anything change for the better or worse for the 02 Model year on a mountain max?
Thanks
Thanks

I think the general concensus is that a stock red head motor is in the 115-120 range +/- a few ponies.

Do they ever pulish toruqe numbers? Just guessing since it's a triple it has either more or just a lot better bottom end than a twin. Ever 800 twin I rode felt way weaker on the bottom but somewhat poppier. Same thing, every 800 out there (stock anyway) this sled would pull away from hard up to about 65-70 then the bigger sled would walk by it.
Most of those sleds claimed 140hp+, longer track and lighter weight.

u put tripple pipes on those red heads and do some porting and u have a sled that runs with any of the older 800 on any given day

I was always wondering what the hp number was for a stock red head. I put v-force reeds and an mbrp can in mine last spring. I also dropped weight in the skid, waiting for some snow to go ride it and see how it rides after the diet. Dropped around 20lbs total, but a lot was under the hood ditching the stock muffler, that thing is heavy

Every dyno report I seen was around 111-113hp.With the reed notch mod, thin head gasket, and silencer mod dyno results are 120-122hp.

So I guess 110 it is.
Not to turn direction in this thread but what does each level of modding do for mileage?
I'm guessing anything is going to drop it, but how much? With fuel prices the way they are I don't know if moddying it out for 10-15 horsepower would even be worth it if milage suffers too much.
How much with the can, reeds and thinner head gasket?
How much with the tripple pipes, jets and clutching?
