A 40-10 HeelClicker kit with a 48/36 Dalton helix worked well on my Viper. There are many great setups in the tech section you could use. A can seems to drop hp, sheds some weight and is loud. Well tuned engine and clutches would do the most.

clutching 110%, can only adds noise,no speed.
list out what parts are in it and we can go from there.
if your running a viper I can set you up with a arm stretching heel clicker set up that does wonders and pulls good everywhere in the range.

Thanks for responses.I am not sure what came with the Max kit and will take apart to see what's there. I guess I knew what needed to be done before I posted. I had an 04 S with the speed sheave secondary that pulled real good too!

I can guarantee you will slow it down if you put a can on a Viper. Clutching is the way to go. Another thing I am going to do that adds to the real world performance to any snowmobile is to reduce rolling chassis resistance. I have mine partially apart at the moment re-valving all my shocks. Going to have my front driver, wheels ,etc. all turned on the lathe and trued. My buddy at work is a machinist and does this to all his sleds. You can give the sled a push and it will coast when all done.

Might be a dumb question but... can you clutch to get more top end speed and also quicker acceleration? Or is it a give/take? Give up acceleration for more top speed, or dive up top end for quicker acceleration?

THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION , BETTER TOP SPEED AND QUICKER ACCELERATION. ITS NO GIVE AND TAKE, THATS THE PERFECT SET-UP. 3;16 (yammie tony)akrievins said:Might be a dumb question but... can you clutch to get more top end speed and also quicker acceleration? 1:1 final drive, no matter how you get there its still the same. The only way to increase top speed would be more hp.

Okay, how much does it cost for a Heel Clicker setup?
Wondering if it's so good, why doesn't everyone do it?

kirkswim uses the setup turk gave him on his viper. it is not an all out speed set-up but more of a agressive trail. always gives my war a good run for its money but it is always 1st out of the hole. we liked it so much that we did the same set-up in my dad's sxventure (the viper one) using a stock 05 war helix as it is close to the dalton. if it did not have that damn connected cone track, it would be running with the viper. as it is it is not too far behind.
