My brother picked up his first sled this spring a 97 SX 700 and it has a comet clutch on it and i far as i know those don't really belong on yamaha's, right?
So my question is what are the #'s on back of a stock primary for this sled cause we are gonna try and switch them out at a sled salvage shop this weekend. So I just wanta know what stamps I should be looking for on back of a stock primary. Also I'm not sure what model comet is on there....it stays engauged when its running and doesn't back out fully like it should when i have it on the stand.

This is the part # 8CR-17611-00-00 for the fixed sheeve. But just about any 97 and newer 2 stroke yamaha clutch will work.Only things that i would look for is ones with correct weight, springs.Or you can upgrade to a 98 and newer Clutch off a SRX or 99 and newer sx/vmax.They have what they call a tall spring cover.Same as what your sled has.Or you can always search on here and probably get a better deal thats all setup already.

Heres stock info.

stock weight=8CH-17605-00-00
stock spring=90501-555J9-00 white/silver/white

JUST A FYI, YOUR GONNA NEED A COMET CLUTCH PULLER TO TAKE THAT CLUTCH OFF. WE HAD ONE ON A 97 600 SX AND COULD NOT FIND A PULLER ANYWHERE. GOT THE OLD CUTTING WHEEL OUT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Funny you say that we were out in the garage tonite with my yamaha clutch puller and we realized we're gonna need a comet puller, great! Hope my buddy has one at the shop i can borrow.

ok how the hell do i find what model Comet clutch we have on cause all i can see for any kind of numbers is this 17503-22003 stamped on outside sheeve....need to figure out so my buddy knows what puller I need.....to me it looks like a 108exp but I really don't know much about comet clutches.

DUDE, CUT IT OFF. AND BE CAREFUL. I JUST WENT THROUGH SAME THING. TRYED HUNDRED OF PULLERS. HERE WHAT I FOUND OUT. COMET OF CORSE HAD THE 102C. (very popular ). THAN THEY CAME OUT WITH THE 108 EXP. HERE IS THE PROBLEM. IN BETWEEN, THEY SOLD A 108 C. VERY HARD TO FIND A PULLER FOR THIS CLUTCH. WE CUT OURS OFF. HOPE YOU HAVE BETTER LUCK. IF ITS A EXP IT WILL SAY ON COVER. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Just wanted to say that i got the comet clutch off with out cutting it.. borrowed a puller that i actuall ended up snapping the end off that was in the socket and then used my heat gun and a rubber mallet and then she poped right off. Now i owe the shop a puller and my brothers sled is ready for a real clutch..lol
