Was out riding today. 50 miles in and the chain sound like it is slipping over the gear. I tighten the adjustment bolt thinking I would be good. No such luck. Now reverse refuses to engage, and forward motion is not working. Smells like something is burning. Any ideas, siezed bearing. Too cold to look at it tonight, just wondering what I have to fix next.

Is your parking brake on by any chance? Just want to be sure.

Also many times the belt slipping sounds and feels like something more drastic.

The chain tensioner bolt should only be finger tight.

Raise the track off the ground and rotate it by hand working back from the track to the driveshaft. Then the chain, and jackshaft, and then the secondary. If you can't turn it by hand, then something is wrong.

Personally I would drain the chaincase oil (plug bolt is inside tunnel) and then pull the chain and gears. It is very easy to do and you can then check your chain out real closely. Once you have the chain off you should be able to pinpoint the problem by turning the shafts by hand.

You don't want to run it because if the chain or driveshaft is damaged it could really come apart and damage other expensive parts. Good idea to check each bearing out individually.

Not the parking brake. If I lift the rear end.up.and. turn the secondary the track spins.

If it does it freely without any unusual noise or drag, then I would check my belt.
