Andy.Do you know the people that went thru the ice on their snowmobile after coming back from fishing on Lake Winnipegosis .Apparently the women was in the ice cold water for hours and the male driver went under and they are going to try and retrieve the body later.
I know you said the ice was around 6 inches thick already, but I guess you still have to watch were you go on the Lake.Sounds like the first snowmobile mishap of the season already..You been catching any fish lately on the Lake area? Do you have any kind of snow on the ground yet???

it has been below 0 here for a long time already.Ponds,Rivers and Lakes are now ice covered. If I could get to the smaller River, would be able to ride on it already.it has a little snow covering and would be perfect. But that is a few miles away and ditchs are bare yet.

I've always heard that.....if the temp is 0 degrees F, and the water/ice is not covered w/ a blanket of snow, that approx 1 inch of ice forms/24 hours. The snow actually acts as an insulator to prevent that 1 inch of ice to form. Granted, ice more than likely will form, just not as much.

yup I seen ice shaks up in selkirk near the shore you gotta be nuts its only 8 inches in the thickest areas supposedly. Not worth falling through..
