If I put an aftermarket can on my stock viper, do I need to change my jetting? Looking at the hauck, bender silencer or sno stuff rumble pack...

I thought I read that the air bleed screw needed to be out 1/4 turn? I guess that would make it a tick leaner?
+1. I wanna know too. I have a can coming in the mail for my twin.

The screw is a fuel screw, turning it out would make it richer. An easy way to tell an air screw from a fuel screw is... If its in frt of the float bowl (engine side) that would be fuel screw. Behind the float bowl ( air filter side) its an air screw.

no rejet needed, i just put a bender on my sled, in conjunction with the 4x4 pipe i like the sound so far and it is pretty quiet. with that said i know it will break in sooner or later and be somewhat louder. i've been told slp is the way to go for noise levels but i like the light weight of the bender

Also, turning OUT the fuel screw richens (more fuel) the mixture. Turning OUT an air screw leans (less fuel) the mixture. So they are opposite directions depending on which one ur turning.

I just looked at the SLP can and it wont fit if you have reverse. My dad has a hauck and I like how it sounds. Is the hauck or bender louder?
So the air screws need to come out 1/4 turn?

You shouldn't need to. If you are buying it new just call and ask.

No re-jetting required. Enjoy the drop in performance.

but the noise will turn heads. When I had SnoStuff Can on my 600..it sounded cool man..snap the throttle and get that nice sound that echos..when I used to pass or be near others sleds when passing by,I would nail the throttle and they would turn their heads to see where the sound was coming from.Mine wasn't as loud as other ones. One of the guys we ride with has a MZX 700 and the Can on his is LOUD..when you are in the bush along the River and punch it..the sound just echos everywhere..
I sold mine after a few years.Didn't like the noise when I was doing wot runs along the River..it was annoying. How do Harley riders ride their bikes with their exhaust being so loud makes me wander..such a bad annoying sound.

Yeah..... thats why i was kinda leaning away from the sno stuff can.
I like my rumble pack! It sounds nice and not too loud IMO. Light also.

The Snow Stuff can is loud. You can hear a few on youtube. The Bender, MBRP and SLP are not too loud. I have tried the last three and I found a significant drop in acceleration while testing against another constant Viper. Tried all three on one day in our field then went back to the stock one and I was back to normal running close to the other Viper. Now I wasn't expecting a gain but on the other hand I wasn't expecting such a huge loss either. I have used cans on other sleds and never have seen such a drop in performance like you do on this sled. Some guys are OK with this which is their choice. My choice was to spend money elsewhere. Clutching, better traction, shock valving, etc.......JDViper said:Yeah..... thats why i was kinda leaning away from the sno stuff can.
the answer= is simple dont think for one second that yamaha didnt make the exhaust that they intended to use for thier specific sled to be the best performance wise. the r&d was done and lots of it.. only time you will see a gain is when you replace the whole exhaust. components of the yamaha exhaust work best with all the same oem pieces if ya know what im saying. if ya replace it with aftermarket ya havta do the whole thing for any real gain noticed. which means different manifold pipe/pipes silencers etc. yamaha was no dummy when they made these sleds and the stock exhaust is hard to beat unless you tripple pipe on the viper. and as far as the srx goes the stock exhaust on those is extremely hard to beat for the aftermarket companys. the cans themselves are just noise makers plain and simple.. louder dosent mean faster...journeyman said:The Snow Stuff can is loud. Yes. I understand that. Im not going for power with this. Im just going for sound.andrew k said:the answer= is simple dont think for one second that yamaha didnt make the exhaust that they intended to use for thier specific sled to be the best performance wise. the r&d was done and lots of it.. only time you will see a gain is when you replace the whole exhaust. components of the yamaha exhaust work best with all the same oem pieces if ya know what im saying. if ya replace it with aftermarket ya havta do the whole thing for any real gain noticed. which means different manifold pipe/pipes silencers etc. yamaha was no dummy when they made these sleds and the stock exhaust is hard to beat unless you tripple pipe on the viper. and as far as the srx goes the stock exhaust on those is extremely hard to beat for the aftermarket companys. the cans themselves are just noise makers plain and simple.. louder dosent mean faster...
well i would say at this point just do some research and mabey check out youtube and see what can meets the sound criteria you want to achieve. as far as jetting throw the can on do a mid range run and a wot run make sure the plugs are in a nice tan state and in spec for both and happy trails!!JDViper said:Yes. is there only one kind of sno stuff can..because i seen a few on youtube saying sno stuff rumble pack..an they sound great so just wondering if this is the same thing..

I believe there is only one........but don't quote me. Mbrp had two, a race and a trail version. Mine must have been the trail I tried being it was pretty quiet. It was the biggest loser in my testing too. The SLP and Bender were about 5-6 sled lengths in a 1000' run, the Mbrp was half the field, like running a 500 against a 700 no contest race.
If I was going to do anything exhaust wise (without doing triples) on my Viper at this point I would try running a Bender single pipe into the stock silencer. That's the only positive feedback I have continually heard from several TY members. The stock silencer probably keeps the proper back pressure needed for this sled to run properly. There is a little gain in sound because the stock main pipe itself has internal baffles inside it to reduce noise while I believe the Bender pipe does not. I have had a stock silencer apart and there isn't much you can do there for gaining a little better sound. The exhaust is routed through three different chambers that are like three seperate walled rooms with a couple walls that have several small holes like a noodle strainer. The exhaust has to make several bends before it escapes the bottom silencer outlet. Most aftermarket cans go straight through with a little packing to somewhat silence them or dump into a single chamber and then out.

Im picking up a can from Crazy Canuck. Im not real worried about loosing power but how much will it be? Probably not too noticable without another sled next to you??

I have a rumble pack on my 700 sx and I love the way it sounds. It is a little loud after riding for six hours but oh well. As for jetting I had to go up a jet size cause after making a wot pull the plugs were white as hell.

I called bender and they said 1 hp gain... So either way not too much difference.
What can you tell about your motor by the plugs? Light brown is good. White is lean? What does rich look like?
