i recently swapped my 33's to mach z 38 carbs. i know 141.3 mains in the 33mm carbs was jetted right on the line at 56' F. i have a mikuni jetting calculator and acording to it my 141.3 round jet would be equivelent to a 240 hex main? does this sound right? if so then a 280 hex main jet should be good to -20' F right?

You will need a lot larger main jets then that. You will be moving a lot more air with the 38s so you will need larger main jets to compensate.
I ran TMX 38s on a trail ported Bender piped 700Sx and used 350-370 mains.[gutted airbox vents in box]
There are a lot of members on here that have done this on an SRX and should be able to get you close but if no one chimes in I would start with the stock jetting that came on the Late model 99+ 800 tripple Mach Zs.

i ended up putting the stock throttle cable bracket on the mach z carbs so i could still use the stock throttle cable. right now i have 310,310,320 main jets and 50 for the pilots, 2 turns out. still dont have any ridable snow to tune with but my egts at idle are 205,327,426. my carbs are from a 2000 mach z i believe. it had the main jets in this order when i got them 310,320,310.

Check the carb slide syncronization to ensure that all the slides are openining exactly the same amount in any throttle position.
I would also try to PM Valin as he has experience with 38s on an SRX and he may be able to put you real close on proper setup.

you were right the carbs needed to be sync'd. got it done and its much better now. thanks bob

im having trouble getting the airbox to fit now. i searched and found that i needed to turn the airbox boots around and cut off the side that used to clamp to the stock carbs. it didnt fit so i started making the holes in the airbox bigger because it looks like the spacing is a little different. anyone who has done this have problems like this?

When I had the TMX 38s on an SX I used 3 1997 SX 600 twin cylinder airbox boots as they use bigger carbs and they fit the 38s and airbox well.
