last fall i purchaced my first yamaha sled and its great.i did notice that i had some"off idle "hesitation.i took the carbs apart and they were ok but i made sure they were clean.i reset th float levels,to me they seemed to high.i also reset the air screw from 2-turns to 1 and 3 quarters.i also adjusted the cable for the oil pump, the spark plugs all looked "too rich.i have clymer manual and the spec in there is .087-.094 in.i adjusted to .087 wile pulling out on the cable, and thats all the adjustment i could get.i guess i just need to know how cridical this measurement is.o,buy the way,the sled is a 1999 vmax 600 triple deluxe with only 2913 original miles.any and all information on this sled would be very helpful.thank you.

Okay, the hesitation could be from the carbs being dirty, pilots might have had some minor blockage in them. If the hesitation is still there after cleaning the carbs and moving the fuel screw back a 1/4 turn from where it was, you might try putting it back to 2 turns (I'm unsure what stock setting is on this sled, would have to look it up).

Second, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Adjusting your oil setting leaner because the plugs are black is NOT something you want to do. Plug color shows what the jetting is, that is to say how much fuel it is getting: black is too rich, gray/white is too lean, and cardboard brown is about right. The oil setting just needs to be set withing spec and left alone, do not adjust because of plug color.

I wouldn't worry about changing the jetting until you can go ride it and perform plug checks at 1/4 throttle, 1/2 throttle, and full throttle.
