Viper Shocks on a M Max

I read last year on one these threads that Viper Shocks can be installed on a narrow ski stance sled like a M-Max without changing the rods or sway bar. How is this done? The shock has to be compressed about 2" to get the bolts in. By compressing the shock won''t this give you a stiffer ride? Are the springs readjusted? If so how many inches?
