does anybody know what the torque specs would be for the cylinder base studs on the viper?
in searching for this post i have also read that some people change out the base gasket for a srx base gasket. what would be the advantage of this?

It looks like 33Nm or 24 ft*lbs.
It's a cooling issue. But if you are putting in an opticool gasket and you're running stock then you probably don't need to change out he base gasket. At least that's my understanding and that's the way my vipers are set up.
The opticool slows the fluid going through the head on the mag side and a little in the center. The PTO side seems to have the same opening as stock. By slowing the fluid down it can gain heat better to cool the head. Almost counter intuitive of what I would have thought. The stock viper head gasket has all the same size coolant holes and I believe I've read that the fluid just goes by too fast on the Mag side and the center to dissipate the heat.
The base gasket idea is the same as the opticool head gasket idea. However if you're stock it seems like it is unnecessary. If it's piped then I'll defer to someone else since I run stock.
Hope that helps.
