I do alot of passes at the local airstrip which is groomed hard pack, last year the srx would spin out of the hole for what seemed like 100 ft. This year i have more power and a more agressive clutch setup .I currently have a 1 1/4 ripsaw with 144 studs down the middle. It has very little stud penatration, just enough to clear the coolers and get some traction on ice. Am i better off going with a 1 inch track with lots of studs or sticking with the 1 1/4 and adding more studs.

with 144 down the middle there cannot be anymore room to add. How old are your studs? are the carbide tips worn off? 144 should be more than enough bite.

Yammis are known for getting their traction on the outside edge of the track, but if u stud the outside your track life is diminished alot. 1.25 will really hurt top end but help the holeshot. When I had my srx I ran 144 and but used the outside edge instead of all in the center. Good suspension setup will help u alot also. I agree on checking to see if the studs are wore down alot also.

Mostly groomed trails with a little bit it of ditch banging. Thurdaynight drag racing at the strip. The track it hard packed groomed 1000 ft. thats where i have the most trouble, When i get a good launch the old girl flys but usually i watch the 4 strokes walk out front of me while i spin out.

Its your studs barely sticking above the lugs.Put a 1" hacksaw with megabites and you will fly out of the hole.I had my old cat twin with 200 hp on motor and a 80hp shot of spray and that hooked amazing with a hacksaw and studs.

IMO the ripsaw lugs are too thin allowing for a lot of bending when launching on hardpack.
My '01 has a 1" aggressor which is a heavy beast but the lugs run the full width and DO NOT bend. 144 1.175" Gold diggers inside and out and even with the skid set up for trail riding, it hooks up on hard pack and plowed ice even after the start line surface has been chewed up from multiple races. In fact, I'll wait awhile after someone plows a fresh track for racing on our lake before racing someone.
I did lose a lot of top end (it still tops out @105 GPS) but I'm after corner to corner acceleration not long lake racing. And I have had guys real me in and drive around me but it's hard to beat a good 60' time... especially in 660'.
Also, Even though I have had an outer track stud take out a front HX from being torn away (acting like a stud tipped flap), IMO the cornering/stopping/launch benefits out-weigh the risks of studding outside the rails.
My 2
lower the engagement will help u alots ..............

Ditto on the hacksaw and 144 1.175 studs. This combination works great for launch and top end.
