the timing should only be controlled thru the CDI.Where the pu coil is mounted should not really do anything..
yes if u move it ..it will change went the pick up coil get the signal to fire up ...with the newer ignition u need to weld the case to move the pick up coil closer of the flywheel cause its a smaller flywheel but i did never check it if it was ok ...im sure it is but i want a do a check

yes the cdi controls the timing, but only to a point. if you move the pickup coil either counter clockwise or clockwise around the flywheel, it will also change the timing "statically".

Re 2000+ SRX Timing:
When I was working on my 2002 SRX TPS a few years ago I had a degree wheel on my clutch and a timing light and here's what I found.
At 1800 RPM the timing was 15 degrees BTDC with TPS disconnected
At 1800 RPM the timing was 20 degrees BTDC with TPS connected
Pat Hauck also told me a few years back that the SRX timing was 15 degrees BTDC at 1800 RPM.

don't know about bracket but i did prefer to tig weld a new tab and drills new hole for the pick up coil ......if u look to a newer case it will give u a good idea how to do it ....i got a spare case if u wanna see it ..newer
