Hi!
Looking for some help about engine swaps. I've been searching on the forum but haven't found a good answer to my question yet.

A friend of mine has a 99 Mountain Max 600 that was wrecked in a pickup accident last year, but the engine is still in good running order.

I found a deal today on a 98 SRX 700 in great shape but has a blown motor. Wondering if anybody has info about swapability of the 600 engine into the srx frame.

This is her backup sled so we aren't overly worried about smoking performance, but it would be nice to get it running in some shape or form.

Anybody have some good info for me?

Thanks!

Thanks :)
Should I swap out clutching and gearing from thee 600, or keep the 700 components? I'm assuming I'll want to swap in the 600 carbs and ignition..
Also, does anyone know the max rpm for the 600 engine? I only ran it once and I seem to recall it hit over 9k which I thought was a bit much, but I'm a doo guy..

I think I need to follow up with her tomorrow. Her hubby said it is a 600 but I found the tech specs on this site that say the 1999 mm 600 was a twin, but I'm 99% sure it is a tripple. Will double check on this important tidbit and update my post tomorrow.

you will need the electrical components as well as the harness from the 600. use the clutching and gearing from the 600 as well. be prepared to fabricate or relocate engine mounts. your pulling a triple out and installing a twin.

the 600 twins should hit around 7800.

Thank you! I'm going to verify which mountain max she has as I was quite sure it is a tripple. Will know more tomorrow...

Whats blown in the srx engine? We just rebuilt a 99 srx with a blown cylinder. 200 bucks for a used jug, piston, ring and head and she runs like new. Food for thought.

Thats what i was thinking fix srx motor and put the MM skid and track in the srx

Pretty sure the 600 triples wanted to rev around 8250ish stock. You can check the tech section for the stock rpm and clutching. If you had triple pipes on them, you wanted to be anywhere from 8400-9200 depending on the pipe manufacturer you had. I would stick with the 600 clutching, gearing, and electrical.

If you are riding at low elevations, I might consider changing the clutching and gearing abit.

Thanks for all the help you guys, and for putting up some great responses even before I knew what I really had! Here are the details I know so far -

The sled we have is a 2000 Mountain Max 600 tripple. We verified the engine starts and runs great this morning. The belly pan and control arms are bent, and there is a tweak in the right-side running board. Track and skid look great.

The other sled is a 1998 SRX 700 tripple with a rod through the side of the block. This sled is in great shape other than the whole blown engine thing :)

So the basic question stands now that I know what we've got - would the 600 tripple motor bolt into that SRX without much effort? I'm thinking we'd need to swap the complete engine, carbs, electronics and clutch (primary and secondary)? We aren't worried about not having 700 performance - this is going to be a backup sled. I am just hoping that the 600 engine drops into the SRX without any major surgery.

Thanks again everyone!

Does the MM engine more up and down or more horizontal? Not sure what shape the bulkhead is in on our sled. It took a good jolt to the front bumper and the hood doesn't line up with the belly pan

You may have to fab up some motor mounts. As long as everything fits in there (carbs,pipe,etc...) you should be OK as long as the center to center and offset are good.

With both motors side by side on the bench, you can have a good look at mounting positions and angles. This will give you a good idea of what needs to be done.

I would think the areas that require the most attention would be the angle and postion of the carbs to sit right (for steering) as well as the angle and position of the pipe. This is of course all has to happen while maintaining primary clutch position.

Sounds like a fun project!

Sure it does sound like fun, but what is involved I'm building motor mounts? I have two uncles that are mechicanical engineers but I'd like an idea of what we might need to do.
Is the frame / front end on these two sleds the same, so we could possibLy use the srx parts to revive the mountain max?
