How long do you think we will be able to get parts for our beloved SRX and Viper sleds from Yamaha? Are the vintage guys still able to get parts from Yamaha? I have been able to get every part I ordered so far for my SRX restoration project but I have to believe at some point Yamaha will no longer supply them. At that point, the demand on used parts will go up making them more expensive and much harder to get. Some items do not present a problem such as bogie wheels, wheel bearings, skid shafts and brackets (things that can be made in a machine shop). I have one 2000 SRX which is in top condition, a second one which has been completely disaasembled (already bought over $1500 in new parts for the project). I am starting to accumulate spare assemblies and rebuilding them such as: chaincase, engine with carbs and all electronics, primary clutch and driven clutch. The items that concern me are things like the stator, CDI box, internal engine parts.

depends on the items, things like hood decals and trim items are always the first to be discontinued. The engine parts are safe for awhile as are things like chaincase and etc, because they still fit sleds up into the 2005 year. CDI boxs are likely something to maybe get a spare used one, the 2000 srx is a 1 year fitment only box.
I know I can still get some parts new for my old timer 1981 srx440 but ALOT of items have been discontinued in just the last couple years. Glad I have been buying and got the ski rubbers, ski tips, rubber nose cone and such trim items while they were still collecting dust on the warehouse shelf. I am gonna fully restore it someday will be nice to install the original NOS yamaha parts!

Hi Don, thanks for your reply. I'll keep buying OEM parts as I can afford them. I've been stocking up on some of the low cost and hard to get parts if Yamaha stopped supplying them: engine gaskets, seals, chaincase seals, etc.. I'll keep buying used spares as well. I want to keep my SRX's in top shape for many years. Although with the way this winter is shaping up, it does not look like I will be putting many miles on it.
