Any one know if this is bad ? i spoke with guy from royal distributing and he said it wasnt recomanded... ive done it before, and heard of people going it ... why wouldnt it be recomamded?

definately a bad idea, for the sake of a few bucks. kimpex rings are meant to work with kimpex pistons. either way i would never run a kimpex part in a motor unless it was a lawnmower

You are taking a big chance for very little $ savings. If the combination fails, you'll end up taking out a piston, cylinder, possibly the head, power valve and possibly more parts. It is not worth it, besides, you probably won't get the proper performance anyway.

Port Yamaha is in Wisconsin and are a site sponsor.I know oem parts here in Canada are terrible expensive but really mixing Kimpex with oem can't be good.I've bought parts from US vendors and I can tell you that rings are like 1/3 the price they are here so even if you have to pay for duty and such it will most likely be cheaper in the long run.

Shipping of parts across the boarder for stuff like pistons and rings is relatively cheap and you can save hundreds if doing a whole motor. I know its bad for the Canadian dealers, but if your buying lots of stuff, it pays. For stuff under $200.00ish, I usually buy local.

If given the choice I would use kimpex pistons and oem rings.
Seriously thou, do not go cheap on the engine-use oem parts if available.

not sure on price of rings here..but a good example are SRX Pistons. Here a few years ago I was quoted $165 a piston plus tax. From the US I got OEM SRX Pistons for $95.00 each. That is a savings of $70 a Piston.I paid no duty ,just GST coming across the border and shipping. But I order a load of parts, not just pistons alone. It saved me a lot in $$$$ even with shipping involved.I am sure the Dealers here quote us a price and there is a shipping amount included with the price anyways. Belts here about $100,from the US I get them at $46.00...still saving and everytime I place an order I always order a belt.I have 6 new belts sitting here now.

Our dealers here in Canada, especially federicton, NB are crooks. I drove an hour each way to houlton powersports just to buy rivets. My dealer want almost $4 a piece. Do the math and 6 will cost $24 plus tax. I paid $7 dollars for 6 of them in Houlton, tax included. I borrowed a Nissan Versa for the trip so I think I paid about $15 in gas. Not much savings there, but realy I didnt care, i got away for the afternoon and i didnt get the greasy feeling in my stomach that I was getting ripped off. Clutch springs..my local dealer wants over $40 each, $19 in houlton after my TY discount. Belts are $155 at my local dealer for the mighty vmax-4, I get those from ebay!

a couple of years ago I had to pu rivets from local dealers..think they charged me about $2.00..online I get them for $.99 to $1.05 depending on which ones.I know they need to make money during the winter but wow $4.00 a rivet...I think tougher times are coming.Sled prices are way to high here also, bet you in the future more dealers will be closing the doors, especially the smaller dealer. The bigger guy spreads their wings into other things. One local dealership is huge here..sells and services Boats/motors,Campers,Trailers,Motorcycles,Quads,Sleds,Clothing and gear for all sports,accessories.etc.They will survive, other just sells a few sleds and more into motorcycles.Time will tell.I know one other big dealership out of town was on the verge of shutting their doors for lack of sales..don't know if they did yet or just sold it.My stepson is friends with the owner's son and usually gets parts at their price because of it.

If you get the seller to mark it as a gift then you dont even have to pay gst.

Maybe I should start an undercover export business to you guys north of the border! I could send you "birthday gifts" every other week. LOL

the parts here in Labrador are rediculously overpriced as well. theres only one dealer here so there isnt competition, and the closest city is baie comeau, QC and thats 8 hrs on a trucking road!
