These kits have adjustable weights for which opne can tune infinitely without needing to purchase a pail full of weights and rivits...
Do they compare to other clutch kits?...Any expertise would be appreciated... thanks

I have Thundershift kits in both my 97 700sx and the wifes 98 500 xt and love them. Easy to tune seem to grab belt much harder than stock weights.

What's the lightest base weight you can get? If it's over 42 grams or so, might not work well in the 500...It wouldn't leave you much room to tune
I'd drive myself crazy playing with a set of those weights, too much fun!

The base weight I got for the 500 was 38.4 These things dial in really sweet.

Hey VMaxjohn.... I think I'll go with your set up in the clutching tables.... Since I already have the 8AB-00 weights, I simply need to buy only a helix and a handfull of rivits..... Most everything else is stock I think....
I can't find a part number for primary engagement shims, are these a Yamaha part?... If so, if not, where do i find them.....
I'll start with your setup and see how it feels for my fat a$$.... I weigh in at 220....Hoping it will suit my weight and riding style.....
What I need is an agressive trail set up....This is what you have tuned for.... thanks....

Honestly, I think the 8AB profile is more agressive down low than the Thundershift weights. I've heard only good things about that set up though, and alot of FAST people rely on them.
Just give www.richmotorsports.com a call, Rich knows the part numbers by heart, I'm sure, hehe.
I have 3 engagement shims to get to 4100, but if you don't have a decent track, you might want to leave it at 3800, which is where the 8ABs (empty) should be at with the stock spring. If you've got the .75" Yoko in there still...keep it as low as you can without bogging. This won't hurt mid range or top end at all.
At 220lbs, you're not much heavier than I am! This set up should keep ya happy with your lil5 for awhile longer, hehe.
