Hi, new to the site and happy to be here. I was told I could find some
srx guys here. I am totally new with the srx's and just bought a 2002.
It is stock and was wondering if a clutch set up is needed to run on just lakes? I have not tried the machine as I am waiting for some ice.
Also it has 2800 miles and was kept inside. It took 25 pulls to start and wouldnt idle. I cleaned the carbs and noticed the pilots where pluged solid.
It is now cleaned properly and idles perfect. The problem it takes 10-15 pulls when cold and warm 1 pull. After 2 hours its back to 10?
I have checked the pv's and chokes everything seems accurate??
Is this normal??
Thanks in advance
Mike

theres been a lot of issues lately about hard starting srx's. a lot of people have been taking the choke plungers out and filing 1mm off of them and apparently it makes a world of difference! hope this helps, and welcome to the site. its a great place, i just joined a couple months ago and you wont find a better site with better people. there is a lot of clutch set ups on here that have been tried and tested. i am going with the 8bu set up, as it seems thats the one that most people have success with. ask around, and do some searches. you will find yourself checking TY multiple times daily, it really is addicting! with barrels of info to read up on! good luck!

MY 2002 SRX IS SAME WAY. VERY COLD BLOODED, ACTS THE SAME WAY. LIKE MATT POSTED, THERE ARE ALOT OF INFO HERE ABOUT HARD STARTING SRX,s and GOOD clutch set-ups. another ISSUE i will get you ready for here is the dcs lite on your 02. TRY AND RUN GOOD FUEL. 3:16 (yammie tony)

yep you got it..there has been threads and posts on it for years. My SRX takes a lot of pulls from sitting for a while,my SXR only takes a pull or less. Some say pump, some say choke.Apparently filing the choke plungers 1mm will help get more fuel during start up.I haven't tried it yet.Clutching can be improved by loading weights with 4.5 both holes or even 5.5g in the tip(by adding a washer).Try a w-w-w primary spring in primary with green in 2ndary wrapped at 70.Aim for wot rpms of around 8450-8500 rpm.On a good hard packed surface should launch to 8200 and climb slowly to 8450 rpm.On ice you will need good amount of studs..probably at least 144 of them.
Another good set up being used more now(which I am now going with) is the 8bu-10 weights in primary..various helixs will work,I am running with 51/43 helix with a vmax4-800 spring. There are a lot of threads on it to read up on.

Good luck..you'll love the 02 as I have and it hasn't broken on me yet and I run her hard. There are a lot of info on DCS issues also about keeping the light off.Make sure you are jetted right..I am running stock jetting with 45 pilots, run premium fuel and open fuel screws up to around 2 to 2.25 turns out.My light stays off, even on long wot pulls..take care of her and she will treat you right...
Where in Canada are you..your avatar doesn't say.......

Thanks guys!! I find anything with sleds becomes addictive...I will double up on my meds..lol yammie tony I was told you are a srx legend!! thanks for the info..will the light come on even with high test fuel? Also I am new to yamaha switched from cat just wondering what is a bbu set up?
thanks

THANKS MAN, BUT THERE ARE ALOT OF SRX LEGENDS ON THIS SITE THAT POSTED LOTS OF GOOD INFO FOR YA. YOU WILL LOVE THAT SLED. 3:16 (yammie tony)

its all a learning curve.Guys on here will get ya close and you have to fine tune to your conditions, elevation and temps.I have gone thru so many clutch setups and still working on it.I think the 8bu-10 weight will be the ticket for me now,I still use stock set up if need be.depends on conditions.I have 2 sets of clutch's/secondaries ready to go .On same day, same temps, same conditions I can switch back and forth and experiment which does better.
