Have a 99 MM700 151 with SLPs, mod. air box. Needing a good safe baseline carb setup. Run between 2000-5000 ft. elevation. Have studied the SLP setup. Currently have 141.3/140's with a 57.5 Pilot, clip at 2.5 postition. This set up on barely broke in. Plugs look good, not much wash to speak of on tops of pist. Scared to have a repeat of last year...lost PTO/Mid. Considering 147.5 MJ, 57.5's and clip at?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here in MN at 1200' I ran my stocker with airbox mod for years with 142.5's and needles in the middle. Never ran SLP's but I would assume they would want at least that much fuel at 2000'. Got a set of benders with porting and I'm running 155's (I think - been a while since I looked) at 10000' I use 142.5's in it with the needles at 2. Again this is just going off my brain, I'd have to dig out my notes to be sure. I'd guess you would be pretty close with the 147.5's, needles at 2.5 and the 57.5 pilots.

You may be a little fat on the pilots. I ran 150 across the board. I ended up changing the the nozzle in the PTO to match the center and mag. I can't remeber off the top of my head, I think it was Q8 to Q4 or vice versa. I ran 50 pilots. Depending on what oil you are running, you may not get a real visible wash. I never had any issues down to -25C. After that it's too cold to run WFO! I too was at the 2000' range with SLPs and gutted air box (no porting) and a little clutching.

taylzee, you made an interesting comment about the oil. Do you mean synthetic vs say Yamalube? Sounds like bumping it up a bit is the best route.

I too have come to this conclusion. I ran full syn after buying my 700, and reading the wash was much different than the mineral oil that was run through it previously.

Sorry for the late reply...but yes, I mean synthetic can be tougher to read wash with. Yamalube mineral is easier.
I have slps on my sled and run 143.8s and 57.5 pilots at 3000 to 6000ft and I get dark brown plugs, if you want to keep it safe at your elevation I would go to 145s.
