HI, a couple years ago i had purchased a banged up viper for a good price. well i never got around to fixing the sled. This year i have been working on getting it back togeather. The sled starts and idles problem free. having rode a new polaris sleds for the past several years and older polaris sleds before that i dont know much about yamaha. What are some things i should look for, care for, maintain, fix, on this viper? Keep in mind the sled hasnt been ridden in at least 3 years and only has 2000mi. what do i need to make this thing a strong runner? Thanks for any help

What year is it? Pics? Prolly start with a good carb cleaning & good gas. Was it fogged before it was stored?
it is a 2002 sxviper er 700 i will get a picture up shortly! it has not been fogged since i owned it. (2yrs) and i doubt the previous owner did anything with it.

Like anything really, If properly cared for, it will last you a long time. Especially if it only has 2k miles. I have 8,800 miles on my Viper and its runs like a champ. Start fogging the motor when you store it for the summer. Grease it as well. When/if you have snow, take it out & clear the cobwebs out of it.
so just basic yearly maintnaince. no specific problems with these engines and sleds? perfect when we finally get snow i will be throwing a leg over a yamaha for the first time

The vipers are prone to have a rub thru on the wiring harness under the motor & sometimes under the fuel tank(brake light wiring). If it doesn't have a torque limiter kit on it, buy one. Do a forum search and you'll see its a must. You can break motor mounts & shift your clutches out of alignment without it.
A couple of bucks

And an Opticool head gasket just for good measure.
