I just bought a 2000 SXR 600 triple, and the sled sat at the previous owners place for a year or two unused. We replaced some parts on the sled, and my buddy cleaned the carbs and sync them. When we started it up, only the middle cylinder was hot & working. It was back firing also. The outside cylinders were cold and not working. We changed the plugs on all 3 cylinders, and it looks like each cylinder is getting a spark. When I bought this sled, we did a compression test on all 3 cylinders. It was 120, 121, and 120 roughly on the guage. My buddy did drain all of the old gas from the tank & put new premium fuel in tank. Any ideas or suggestions on getting these other 2 cylinders working? Is it fuel line issue then? Seems like fuel isn't getting from the tank to the outside cylinders. Let me know.
thanks

Next thing I would do after checking for spark and compression would be to pull the air box off and open the drain screws at the bottom of the carb bowls to see if they have any fuel in them. If not, pull a line off one of the empty carbs and pull it over to verify fuel pump is pumping. Then I would suspect needle and seats stuck.

you will have to clean the carbs again. What ever crude that was in the gas tank is now being pushed into the carbs once the new fuel was added. If sled was sitting that long..imagine the crap in the bottom of the gas tank now being forced into the carbs.Probably good idea to remove gas tank and flush it out..check the little umbrella filters for crap.Have to remove your floats, remove the needle valve assembly..they may be solid and not moving and no gas getting into the bowls.

I would check the carbs again. A lot of people lately, myslef included, having trouble with the pilot jets plugging up. If it seems to run a bit better with the choke on then that would be a sign that its the pilot jets. Also, you could pour a small amount of fuel through the plug hole of the cylinders that are not firing and see if it seems to get them to fire up briefly. This would help confirm its a fuel issue.

if gas was left in the carbs for 1 to 2 years..you would need a good cleaning. After a season carbs should be free from gas.either remove the carbs and drain or shut off gas supply to carbs and run motor until it runs out of gas and the carbs should be empty. But you either have non working needle valves(stuck) or totally packed up umbrella screen before the needle valves.
#62 screen and # 33 needle valve
PS:good idea to check the pilot jets again also for plugged issue..you get her ...

years back when I parked my 700 Maxim Motorcycle for about 3 years and finally decided to get her running again..forget it..it just wouldn't run.So it was a painstaking effort to get the carbs out.Opened it up and couldn't believe what the old gas did to the insides. The needle valves were solid..couldn't move them.Once I spent the time to clean all parts properly,re-installed the carbs..put fresh gas in..choke on and turn the key..it fired up instantly.Never will I ever let gas sit in any carbs anymore for years without draining all gas from carbs and tank...lesson learned.Saves you a big headache down the line...
