Fresh pistons/rings/crank seals/resealed cases etc. Always hard starting before and after rebuild. Are these known for this? Carb and fuel delivery system is clean and appears to be functioning fine. Appears to have good ignition. Anyone ever used a primer on these? Any advice will be appreciated! I am new here and would welcome any help. If I get a moment I'll try to post a pic or two. Nice little sled. Just getting back into vintage sleds. No or little snow has given me some time to putz with these again... Thanks, Troy

Great little sleds!! Should start on 3 pulls max if everything is right. Shouldn't need a primer.

If compression is 110 or above, choke system is working and timing is on it should go.

Early (first year or two) were timed off the pto cylinder. All the rest were timed off the mag side. Air box needs to be on for good starting/running. Center seal, plugged pipe could be a culprit.

Check pipe by removing it and then try to start.

Check choke system by removing air box and squirting fuel into the carb and try to start.

Checking center/end seals is easy if the cylinders are off. Fill one crankcase cavity with fuel to a level above the top of the seals. If fuel runs across to the other cavity or out an end seal that seal is bad. If not they are good.

Something isn't right.

Good Luck, opsled

Not real sure what is going on yet. I pulled out the old fuel yesterday and replaced with fresh. A shot of fuel in each cyl and the lid to the tank open. Fired up second pull. Ran it around for 20 minutes and shut it down. Fired up nice a half hour later. Let it set for a hour and a half the next time. About 6 pulls to get it going after that. Only thing I can figure out is that the old fuel had gone bad? What a riot riding this thing! Hoping it's healed up and good to go for the remainder of the year.

sounds like the fuel is draining back from the carb to the fuel pump. you could try clamping the fuel line off by the pump with locking pliers.

Need to make sure your enrichener is opening correctly. Remember, they are a two stage unit that needs to be pulled and pushed down to lock open far enough.

choke plunger was corroded when I took the carb apart this fall. Did whaa I could to get it cleaned up and it seemed free in the carb. The cable seems a bit sticky and has a hard time getting to the full choke position. I probably should get a new cable and be done. finally got the 01, 02, 03 sleds off the trailer today. Funny but I'm having to much fun messing with the old iron this year! 6-10 inches starting early morning through tomorrow.. May be a bit much for the old girl. Anyplace have seat covers other than ebay?
