There is a guy by me selling a 1998 SRX for $1600. I like mountain sleds, so I was thinking about making him an offer and parting it out. It only has 3500mi on it and is in good shape. Do you think I could make any money on it? I would probably offer him $1200 to start.

Depends on how long you want to spend trying to get your money back. Some of the stuff usually sells pretty quickly and some you end up sitting on for a while. Some can sit for a long while:( If you get into it cheap enough, it could be a fun project to stretch out and turn into a mountain sled since that's your thing. I thought my old srx worked really well as a 144 by the time I was done with it.

Those 98/99's have the crank not being welded problem (in addition to the rub through, an all the other common problems). I paid $1200 for my 99, that's as high as i would ever go for one of the 98/99s.

I am wondering what the rub through problem was you mention???

The wiring harness going under the engine can rub through and ground out the wires. If you do a search on here you will be able to read all about it.
